Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA)

Our open systems approach incorporates the technical and business strategies to provide systems that are well supported by Collins Aerospace and third-party embedded system providers from aviation and associated industries.

This approach uses the incremental acceptance process as defined in DO-­297, which enables integration and acceptance of new components into a deployed Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) system, as well as maintenance of existing components, without the need for re-acceptance efforts.

In addition, our leadership in groups such as the Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE™) Consortium provides us with unique open systems expertise and ensures we are on the forefront of open systems development and integration.

Mission/integration computing

We are producing a series of flight, mission and integration computers with increasingly sophisticated technological capabilities across a wide range of today’s military aircraft. Based on the building block approach of open systems architecture, HOST and OpenVPX technology, the Collins Aerospace MOSARC integrated avionics solution breaks vendor lock while providing advanced multicore processing, data distribution and isolation.

Combining our state-of-the-art technologies with military-hardened design, Collins Aerospace display units give today’s pilots unparalleled performance and reliability.

MFD-4820 Large Area Display
A wide, 8-by-20-inch monolithic liquid crystal display (LCD) with resistive multi-touch surface that is optimized for use with gloved hands to eliminate unintended touchscreen activations. The MFD has electrically independent left/right halves. This redundant-design architecture can enhance operation, usage and safety. Together, these features enable synchronized, artifact-free video formats across the center of the display.

A flexible, 5.75-by-9-inch touchscreen display, the NVIS-compatible touchscreen is designed to be used either as a flight display in the instrument panel or as a system controller in low consoles. The display features a resistive multi-touch surface that is optimized for use with flight gloves.

MFD-4068 A8/A9
An 8-by-6 inch LCD available in portrait or landscape orientation with customer-specific input/output (I/O), key panel and/or touchscreen configurations. The MFD-4068 meets the most rugged military requirements, while providing an advanced, multi-core processing/graphics system that also meets the stringent requirement for safety certification in civil air transport aircraft.

The Collins Aerospace MOSARC integrated avionics solution leverages mature cybersecurity technologies, providing a low-cost, low-risk and certifiable solution for the U.S. Army.

With decades of experience integrating safety-critical products and systems that are certified by civil and military airworthiness authorities to the highest DALs, Collins Aerospace has developed a strong expertise in compliance with industry safety standards such as DO-178, DO-254 and DO-297.
