Dave Nieuwsma leads the Interiors strategic business unit at Collins Aerospace, based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In this role, he is responsible for leading a broad portfolio of aircraft interior systems for seating, lighting, galley, oxygen, passenger service, evacuation, de-icing, lavatory, waste, potable water and more. His goal is to support original equipment manufacturers, airlines and business jet customers to develop innovative and reliable interior systems solutions that meet each customer’s unique requirements.
He previously served in a variety of leadership positions at Rockwell Collins over the last three decades. These roles include: senior vice president for Information Management Services; vice president for Government Systems Strategy and Business Development; vice president and general manager of Airborne Solutions; and vice president and general manager for the Mobility and Rotary Wing Solutions business.
Dave has a deep commitment to pursuing innovative and cost-effective means to drive customer satisfaction and value propositions. In his previous role at Rockwell Collins, he promoted and enabled capabilities that advanced aviation connectivity solutions. While working in Commercial Systems, Dave helped lead the introduction of GPS-based navigation landing systems into the airline aftermarket. While in Government Systems, he was involved in numerous impactful projects, ranging from the capture of avionics and solution upgrades on KC-135, KC-46 and KC-390 platforms, to the fielding of the revolutionary F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Gen III helmet-mounted display system.
His vision for the Collins Aerospace Interiors strategic business unit is to help customers across all market segments provide a differentiated cabin experience to passengers and the crew, optimizing quality, efficiency, safety and comfort.
Dave has been involved in a variety of programs in the local community, including K-12, Boy Scouts of America, Big Brother Big Sister, Habitat for Humanity, Junior Achievement and STEM programs. In 2017, Dave served as the Rockwell Collins corporate chairperson for the United Way campaign. He holds a Bachelor of Science in management from the United States Air Force Academy, a Bachelor of Science in computer science from Chapman College, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Iowa.
