Converting data to actionable intelligence

We pioneered the modern reconnaissance field with the design and manufacture of cameras for the world’s first photo-reconnaissance satellite, CORONA, and continue to support strategic intelligence collection on manned and unmanned platforms. Our systems provide analysts and decision-makers with the intelligence they need to operate quickly, accurately and efficiently.

DB-110 (dual-band visible/ IR) reconnaissance pod

Collins Aerospace offers a SEEK EAGLE certified pod for F-16 and other fast-jet applications. With an integrated DB-110 sensor, this pod offers advantages over competing systems by relying on dual-environmental conditioning systems, to provide robust ground cooling and operations over a wide range of altitudes. Full-size fore and aft data-link antennae enable maximum data-link range throughout a full 360° azimuth. Collins Aerospace also offers a smaller, lighter weight pod designed for long-endurance UAV operations. Housing the same DB-110 reconnaissance system, this pod provides stand-off and vertical imaging capabilities and air-to-ground communication over constrained bandwidth systems.

MS-177: The new standard in long-range imaging

The MS-177 Family of Systems (FoS) sensor will provide better image resolution over a longer range and greater coverage area per hour than any other Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) sensor in the U.S. military inventory. In addition to the Northrop Grumman Global Hawk, MS-177 will be able to operate from multiple other ISR platforms, satisfying military requirements for both land and maritime missions.

The MS-177 is the next evolution of Collins Aerospace’ Senior Year Electro-optical Reconnaissance System (SYERS) sensor, currently flown on U-2S aircraft. The SYERS-2 sensor pivots from side to side, while the MS-177 also squints forward and backward, enabling new imaging capabilities. The MS-177 sensor will ultimately be converted into the MS-177A and will offer further expanded spectral performance, enhancing data identification capabilities and assisting in the collation of improved and actionable intelligence.

This next-generation system employs design elements of the fielded SYERS-2A and DB-110 sensors to deliver superior collection capabilities. Key features include high geo-location accuracy, wide-area coverage, collection in six unique spectral channels, moving target indication and persistent imaging over a scene. Its high-quality imagery provides analysts with extensive target detection, discrimination and tracking capabilities to significantly reduce decision timelines.

60 years of strategic intelligence support

The appearance of U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) visual information does not imply or constitute DoD endorsement.

A Multispectral imaging Sensor supporting strategic intelligence collection on the U-2 from the 1960s to the present, SYERS-2A collects seven spectral bands simultaneously providing very high-resolution operational standoff imagery. The system’s shortwave IR and mid-wave IR capability enables low-light operation, penetrates haze and smoke, defeats CC&D, and supports CIED/COIN operations.

The ability to visualize and share information across disparate and degraded communications improves tactical intelligence, ultimately making operations far more successful. The Collins SCi-Toolset is built upon the foundation of simplifying complex information gathered from many different sensors to allow analysts to determine what is relevant from the noise, disseminate across bandwidth-constrained networks and present key information to military decision makers in a secure and timely manner.

Our SCi-Toolset software products provide customers with real-time understanding and visualization of data analysis, and give clarity to the vast amount of information needed to gain intelligence. Historically our technology has been based around connecting imagery using our Processing, Exploitation and Dissemination (PED) systems designed to support long range photography. Our capabilities now take on board a wider range of data across a diverse range of sources.
