Positive Train Control (PTC) Solutions

ARINC RailwayNetSM for short line and commuter railroads

Railroads face the critical challenge of meeting FRA-mandated PTC requirements while also needing to keep their operations running smoothly and cost-effectively. To support this effort, Collins Aerospace has developed a fully-managed, shared-network solution that doesn’t require a prohibitive initial capital investment or internally maintaining IT infrastructure and personnel.

ARINC RailwayNetSM is built on our existing, proven, and highly reliable communications infrastructure for the aviation community. Supporting mission-critical data needs for nearly four decades, the same network and operations centers that deliver 35 million aviation messages a day will serve as the central nervous system of RailwayNet.

ARINC RailwayNet provides connectivity into the Interoperable Train Control (ITC) Federated Network that supports PTC messaging. Our hosted solution includes:

  • Full PTC messaging functionality
  • Back-office services
  • Staffed network operations center and backups
  • Comprehensive configuration management
  • 24/7/365 system monitoring and support
  • Cyber security operations center
  • Custom PTC test labs
  • Rail integration server

Tailored data reporting and analytical solutions

Our newest RailwayNet enhancement offers improved PTC reporting and data analytics capabilities. This enables railroads to identify patterns, as well as gain insights driven by our business intelligence capabilities to enhance preventive maintenance.

Using reports and analytics, railroads can make effective decisions that support operational readiness and optimal performance. With seamless communication, information management and network solutions, our enhanced PTC capabilities offer railroads a modern solution for data management.

Features and benefits

  • Predictive maintenance
  • Analytics and pattern identification
  • FRA PTC mandate compliance
  • Large data storage warehouse

Reliable and secure data storage

With RailwayNet, railroads have the ability to pull reports and status on connectivity or field activities. The Self-service Tool for RailwayNet Onboard Locomotive Reporting (STROLR) is an operational management tool that stores PTC information in a data warehouse. All data is automatically encrypted using AES 256 strong encryption. The data warehouse makes use of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Snowflake’s analytic capabilities, which enables access to the necessary PTC message data at its source, and stores it in an easily accessible and configurable location.
