Composite pipes for aerospace fluid transfer are fitted within the aircraft fuel and hydraulic systems to prevent the effect of a lightning strike.

Our composite pipe technology enables precise tuning of electrical resistivity and fly on today’s aircraft. This technology is scalable and can hold aggressive fluids at high pressure. Within an aircraft wing, the pipes are linked and “float” on O-rings, such that when the aircraft wings bend they can move without being damaged.

These are fitted within the fuel and hydraulic systems of the aircraft to prevent flow of electric current from a lightning strike while still facilitating dissipation of a static charge. Collins Aerospace’s Crompton Technology Group (CTG) has developed a robust method of joining the composite tube/pipe with various metal fittings.


Double wall highly resistive fittings and isolators

Using the same technology as highly resistive fittings and isolators, Collins Aerospace’s CTG can provide double-wall configurations for additional protection with safety critical applications. Double-wall options can include indication for barely visible impact damage.

Unique filament winding process

Being an additive manufacturing process, our unique filament winding provides flexibility for those who can can develop their aircraft solution without high tooling costs. We combine materials in their lowest-cost form using an automated wet wound process to provide a low-cost solution free from manufacturing defects.
