To meet this need, Collins Aerospace has fielded the Common Range Integrated Instrumentation System (CRIIS). CRIIS fulfills a critical DoD requirement to provide Time, Space and Position Information (TSPI) and systems evaluation data to support testing for a variety of current and next-generation platforms. Additionally, CRIIS incorporates advanced systems and algorithms to operate effectively in a GPS degraded or denied environment.

CRIIS is much more than a replacement TSPI instrumentation system. Steps have been taken to realize the U.S. DoD’s vision of a common solution for test and training missions. CRIIS is interoperable with the USN TCTS (Tactical Combat Training System) Inc. II and has certified and deployed Multi Independent Levels of Security (MILS)-enabled blending of live/synthetic advanced test & training environments.

Over 250 CRIIS pods and internal mounts are presently flying on the F-15, F-16, F/A-18, and F-22 with the F-35 coming soon. CRIIS has been installed across seven CONUS ranges, including Eglin, Edwards and Nellis AFB, as well as NAS Patuxent River, Point Mugu and China Lake, and White Sands Missile Range. It can operate off-range or be deployed to other locations as required. These ranges are nearing completion of their airworthiness certification for test and fleet aircraft and Authority to Operate (ATO) across the U-TS operational spectrum. CRIIS is export-approved and continues to be improved through user feedback.

Collins Aerospace supports CRIIS with a 24/7 service call center and full time program management team of experts to assist customers with the overall health and sustainment of the system.
