Collins Aerospace and Knight Aerospace deliver next generation galley and lavatory pallet to the Royal Australian Air Force

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (Sept. 13, 2022) – Collins Aerospace and Knight Aerospace have completed the first deliveries of their Next-Generation Air Transportable Galley/Lavatory (NG-ATGL) solution to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). The innovative roll-on/roll-off palletized solution provides the RAAF with advanced lavatories and full-service galleys onboard cargo aircraft to support various mission types.

Each NG-ATGL includes a full galley and two Collins vacuum-based lavatories mounted on a customized pallet specifically designed and manufactured by Knight to interface directly with aircraft cargo handling systems. The NG-ATGL can be quickly and efficiently loaded and unloaded onto cargo aircraft, including the C-130, C-17, C-5 and KC-46, providing critical in-flight crew critical accommodations while offering cost savings and operational efficiencies over legacy solutions.

“Innovative solutions that improve passenger comfort, well-being and mission-readiness are a critical need for allied forces across the globe,” said Brad Haselhorst, vice president and general manager of Military, Safety & Cargo Systems for Collins Aerospace. “The NG-ATGL replaces units well past their useful age and advances the overall effectiveness and ergonomics of in-flight crews, which is a crucial element when transporting hundreds of troops on missions that often take several hours to complete.”

The NG-ATGL fastens securely into aircraft cargo handling systems without needing additional attachment points or tie-downs to lock the palletized solution in place. The galley provides a variety of customizable options, allowing customers to choose their preferred combination of refrigerators, coffee makers, ovens and microwaves to pair with the two lavatories. Each lavatory is equipped with the Collins Aerospace agile® Vacuum Toilet, which is not only more sanitary than legacy solutions, but also eliminates the need for blue water systems that rely on service trucks to pump out waste after each flight. A sealed 55-gallon waste tank ensures complete containment of waste during all phases of flight.

The RAAF’s entire ATGL fleet will be updated with the NG-ATGL, providing the RAAF with an easy to maintain, modern system that keeps troops focused on the mission at hand. A following unnamed customer is expected to take delivery of the NG-ATGL in 2023.
